On Saturday, October 19th, USC ITE hosted five other schools (Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Long Beach, UCLA, UCI, Cal State Fullerton) for the 2024 SoCal ITE Traffic Bowl. The Traffic Bowl is an annual event hosted by ITE SoCal in which student chapters compete to prove their knowledge of ITE, transportation planning and engineering topics as well as some fun categories. This event is the highlight of the fall semester for the SoCal ITE chapter for it brings the most knowledgeable students from the Southern California Region and allows them to not only show their knowledge that they gained in academia and in the industry, but also it serves as networking in between students. This year we had a turnout of 50 students at this event which is twice the amount compared to the past year’s SoCal ITE Traffic Bowl which was held at Cal State Fullerton.

A new addition that the USC ITE team decided to bring to this year’s traffic bowl was industry sponsors and the inclusion of an industry representative from each sponsor. This year we had three sponsors, AECOM, Zephyr Rail and FPL & Associates, where all companies were presented to students to introduce job opportunities and Los Angeles projects.

Overall, there were three rounds of Traffic Bowl competition which had three judges from transportation consulting firms and JP Ziegler & Emilio Murga who are the chairs of the ITE SoCal Region. Lunch and company swag was available to students who attended the event where they socialized with other student chapters during break-times in between rounds of the traffic bowl. Overall it was a pleasure to see these schools, old and new faces that were welcomed on the USC campus to network with other transportation enthusiasts.
